Protection. Adventure. Love.
It’s all found within The Arms of the Law…
These words above are key in my “In the Arms of the Law” series.
And I’ve been asked a couple questions frequently in some interviews and I’ll ask readers now as well.
What makes series so appealing to me?
Would you rather read series or single titles?
I love series for the fact that I can revisit recurring characters and learn more about the family/friendships with each story told. The characters become even more special and I come to care greatly about all of them.
I would prefer to read series for all the reasons mentioned above, but do appreciate single titles as often as well.
Tell me what you think! (And you’ll be entered in the giveaway below!)

Love series, as long as each book stands alone. Not crazy about someone telling me, you must read the next one if you want the end of the story. I’ll decide that!
Thankfully, I was able to keep each story it’s own. It was hard, but I’ve heard from readers that have enjoyed both and found just enough in each story to get the full story/history. I’m similar to you Taryn, I need to make the decision myself *g*

I enjoy both types of books. It’s great to be able to follow a character through different stories. It’s comforting to know you can look forward to a new chapter in the lives of the people you’ve come to know.
I love all of your covers, Kacey! The stories sound sizzling, too!
Thanks for the fun post:)
Thnx Kathleen, I love my covers too! I think sequels are benefited w/ past characters revisiting, adds more to the next and the next.

Kacey, I gotta agree, both as a reader and a writer, I like the deepening relationships with characters. That said, when it comes to series as a reader, it also depends on the author. Like I love Steven King’s standalone books, but I’m finding in spanking fiction that I love when an author writes a sequel, especially when she/he/hir uses it to focus on a different couple of characters from the first book.

Hi Joelle,

Personally speaking, I find sequels are easier to write (believe it or not!) when past characters come back. Gives me more to work with and layer the stories more. SK books are hit and miss for me, more hits than misses tho. I haven’t read one of his in years. I really should!

I love both, but I adore a great series. The problem is that I’m a really tough editor so it takes a special series to suck me in. It’s hell trying to turn my internal editor off.

Sounds like you’re never off the clock, Azura!! *g*
I give authors until book 2 to really suck me in. If they don’t, I can’t read beyond that.

A good series needs to be an onion, peeling away layers as we go along. I love a good series, but I also love a good single, so they both serve their purpose in life.

And sometimes the onion makes us cry! LOL Yes, I agree, Liza, can’t have everything “peeled” all at once. There’s many dynamics that should be in each book, which all stems from the first to the last book. Thanks for stopping by! Much appreciated.

Most importantly, I love a great story. A story with rich characters and an involved plot in a clearly establish setting. After that it’s up to the author to make me care enough about those characters he or she creates, so I feel the need to continue reading. For me that’s what makes a series worth following, always wanting to know what will happen next to the characters I have come to love and where the story will take me.

Hi Madeleine,
Great thoughts. I couldn’t have said it better.
Each story still has to be its own journey, w/ the characters at central.
