Heartbreakers – Are they Good or Bad?
There are many reasons for someone to break your heart. Sometimes they think they’re doing it with the best intentions, trying to SAVE you, or prevent you from giving up on your plans for them. These are selfless heartbreakers. But they don’t always know what’s best.
Then there are the self-centered heartbreakers, or players, moving on because they fear commitment. Sometimes these heartbreakers can change, more so in fiction than in real life.
In my recent release, Made For Her, the heartbreaker isn’t the hero, but someone who thinks he knows best for the heroine. Here’s an excerpt:
“I love him, Bernie. He’s the first man I’ve loved since Daniel, and you stole him from me. How could you?”
“I thought it was for the best. I wanted to stop things before they got too serious. I was too late, though, and I’m sorry.”
“But why? Am I not allowed to be happy?” She’d been holding in her tears, but the dam broke. She sat back down and wrapped her arms around her knees, rocking her body back and forth beside her husband’s grave. “After Daniel died, I never thought I’d be able to give my heart to another. I put up a wall, but Dare broke through. Maybe it’s because he looks like Daniel, I don’t know. But I do love him, and now you’ve sent him on a suicide mission.”
“You know the rules, Mikayla. I thought it was the right thing to do. He was going to leave anyway, and I didn’t want you to consider going with him. I didn’t want you to find out.”
She wiped her face. “Find out what?”
The general stood up then reached out to help her to her feet. “Come with me. I need to show you something.”

Selfless heartbreaker, all the way!
vitajex(at)aol(dot)com
I like a little of both, but the selfish ones seem like more of a heartbreaker than the selfless ones. theresa.esterline@gmail.com
I don’t know any girl who wants a selfish heartbreaker. Selfless all the way!
mestith@gmail.com
For me the heartbreaker is a bad boy who goes kicking and screaming into love! When he falls he falls hard! And her must be selfless!
The only heartbreakers I have encountered are literary! And my all time fav is Mr Darcy! Although, I am currently crushing on Zadist from the Black Dagger Brotherhood!

As painful as it still is, the selfless heartbreaker at least thinks that he has the other persons’ best interests at heart. anpa@gmail.com
I’d have to say “selfless” heartbreaker. Thanks for the giveaway!

This makes me want to read it even more!!! When it comes to heartbreakers, either way they are fun characters so I’m not particular. Damon and Stephan come to mind, both delicious in their own ways.

In books, it’s fine if he is selfish as long as by the end of the book, he is selfless.

The self-less ones tend to get hurt. I like the selfish ones, as long as there’s a happy ending.

My favorite heartbreaker is the one that your heart can’t live without. One of my best is Lucas from D B Reynolds book “Lucas” (Vampire in America series). Strong mind, well put together and tender when he needs to be.

My favorite part of having a heart breaker is the world class groveling. Todd in Lauren Dane’s Laid Bare is my perfect example.

I like a Heartbreaker who does it because he thinks it is the best interest of the heroine so selfless.
j.m.platt83@gmail.com
I like the heartbreaker who only has eyes and heart for one.
woolfcindy@aol.com
I like them both but find that I am drawn to the selfish heartbreaker more because there is such a good story to tell and detail to get from his tortured past. Thanks so much for the chance to win. I’m a new fan!!

I think I actually prefer reading about the selfish ones. It makes for a change in a happily ever after type story. In real life though, I prefer my man to be a little more selfless than selfish.
