Good day! Here’s one last hook from Made For Her, an erotic science fiction romance.
I’m skipping ahead again this week. Mikayla has just returned from visiting the clone labs in Geneva. And the clone of her husband shows up on her doorstep.
“Colonel Jones, I know I’m not supposed to be here, but please, I beg you to hear me out.”
The clone who resembled her husband glanced around, then centered his attention on her. “Now that you’ve returned, I’m desperately hoping you’ll be back to instruct our squadron in the morning.”
She wouldn’t. She’d asked to be reassigned for the exact reason before her. She felt her heart race. Beads of sweat formed across the back of her neck. Unlike the other genetically modified Daniels, D32 was the only one to look exactly like her late husband. He and Daniel had the same large and broad build that had always made her feel safe, never threatened. His blond hair made a buzz-cut look good on his perfectly shaped head, and his eyes…they were such an intense blue that she became lost in them if she stared too long. Flashbacks of her and Daniel in bed flooded her mind, and she shook them away. The man in front of her was a clone. And she needed him to leave. “D32, what are you doing here?”

Oh, how heartbreaking. Imagine losing the one you love, only to have to look at, and be with a clone… Very nicely done Jess. Hip Bump!
Poor Mikayla! What a dilemma!
I think you could have just put the last paragraph and hooked me. I am wondering why the clones LOOK different. They should all have the same build and colouration. That isn’t what hooked me (just as my Sci Fi geek going “no, no no!”). I can feel her heartbreak at finding her husband again and knowing it isn’t him. I didn’t need the dialog for that, just the hook paragraph.
What an intriguing idea. Would you automatically fall in love with a clone of someone you love? And, would it be impossible for them not to love you? Or would you both/one resist and resent? Great hook!

Another hook that made my heart break! Nice hook!
Her situation is remarkable, and I look forward to knowing more about the clone and how he develops.

A beautiful, thought provoking snippet. Are emotions cloned too? I wonder…

This is such a tragic situation. Brilliant premise.

Clones! If it was truly a clone would it not be exactly like her husband? But what do I know I don’t read much sci fic theses days
What a terrible position in which to find oneself. He looks just like her late husband, but who knows if his personality is the same. And even if it is, a copy is never exactly the same as the original. He could never replace her Daniel, and that must be too painful to bear. But…perhaps instead of trying to replace her Daniel, he could win a place in her heart and become a different Daniel who is also hers. Great hook! It really made me think.

Awe, that would definitely be difficult to bear. No wonder she asked to be reassigned. But I hope she isn’t and gets to know D32. He may look like her late husband, but I bet he’s different… or at least, that’s what I want to find out

I’m betting he’s there because, even though he’s a clone, I bet he has feelings for her and doesn’t know what to do about them. Just a guess!
