Hello! Thank you for visiting me for another Mid Week Tease!
For today’s tease, I’m sharing a snippet from ALIEN ATTRACTION, a sensual alien-on-Earth romance about a young woman trying to find her place in the world and the sexy alien who lives next door.
Setup: After escaping from the gym where her ex-boyfriend and his friend lingered, Angela is trapped in the elevator with her neighbor, the guy she does like. Enjoy!
The elevator reached the fifteenth floor and opened. Chal gestured for her to exit first. Instead of rushing down the hall to her apartment, she lingered. “So, you were away for a couple of days?” Maybe he had a good reason for not showing up in the gym in the mornings as she’d hoped he would. He’d been the one person she’d secretly looked forward to seeing after the stupid orb had wakened her in the middle of the night and before she’d headed off to another day of work as a nameless face. Yet, every morning had led to disappointment when he didn’t show.
“Yes, got called away for a family emergency.” Chal walked beside her, not seeming to be in any hurry to get away.
Pausing, she touched his forearm. “Oh, I’m sorry. Nothing too serious, I hope.”
He placed his hand over hers, sending an electric spark shooting through her veins.
“Thank you, but it was nothing like that. Only….” The rest of his words never came as he stared into her eyes.
Time stopped. The walls evaporated around them. Nothing existed but her and Chal, the energy radiating from him into her, filling her with a sense of peace, yet igniting desires she’d never experienced.
And just as quickly, the sensation disappeared. Angela let go and sighed. She’d likely imagined the connection, thinking too much about a soul mate in recent days. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t have a purely human relationship with him. Digging her toes into the insoles of her sneakers, she delved deep for some courage. “Would you, um, like to go out to dinner tonight? Maybe catch a movie after?”
“Go out?” He gave her a deer-in-headlights look.
She sucked in a heavy breath and glanced away. She’d read too much into their conversation. “Forget I said anything.” Brushing past him, she rushed to her apartment.
“No, wait.” He caught up to her, placing his palm over the lock as she tried to stick the key in. “I think you misinterpreted what I meant.”
Spinning, she stared at his chest. His arms encircled her, yet made no contact. She glanced up at him, struggling to catch her breath.
He set a hand on her shoulder then ran his thumb along her jaw line. “It’s been a long few days and I don’t feel like going out anywhere.”
She had another idea, but wasn’t sure she could speak. His simple touch had left her tongue numb. “Come over to my place later then. I’ll make dinner, and we can watch a movie here. If you fall asleep on the couch, I’ll drape a blanket over you. You won’t have far to go when you do wake up.” Gods, could she sound more desperate?
His lips curved into a wry smile. “I thought you already had plans tonight. Isn’t that what you told the other guy?”
“Kidding.” His smile widened. “That sounds nice. What time would you like me to come over?”
“Around six?” Plenty of time to clean up and get to the grocery store, if she could think of something to make. At that moment, she focused on nothing but Chal’s gaze, his proximity to her, and his fingers working their way across her shoulder and along her spine.
“Sounds good.” He kissed the corner of her mouth then backed away as if he hadn’t set her soul on fire. “I’ll see you then.” Grabbing his suitcase, he hauled it behind him. At his own door, he unlocked it then gave her a quick wave before disappearing into his apartment.
She wants to be more alien.
He wants to be more human.
Born a galaxy apart, will Angela and Chal have a chance at love, or will their extraterrestrial secrets leave them running to stay alive?
