Interrupted by a cute, little tibbar. #WeWriWa from GIB AND THE TIBBAR #GalacticDefenders #scifi #romance #scifirom

Welcome to another Weekend Writing Warriors post!

Thank you to everyone who commented last week on my snippet from GIB AND THE TIBBAR. It was originally published as part of the Pets in Space 2 anthology, but is now available on its own. I’m going to stick with this story for the rest of this month.

Set-up: In the last snippet from this story, Gib came to the aid of his fellow intoxicated Defender. I’m skipping ahead to later that evening when Gib has some free time and is spending it with Vilarra. Unfortunately, they are interrupted. Enjoy… (edited to fit)

When the back of her knees hit the bed, a high-pitch squeak filled her hut and she froze. Elynyn must have spent the entire day sleeping on her bed, and now she would be up all night and likely ruin any chance she had with Gib. If he didn’t flee right away, he’d leave in annoyance.

Yet, he didn’t even flinch at the sight of her white tibbar sitting up on her hind legs, squeaking away. Instead, he reached around Vilarra with his palms up, letting Elynyn sniff him.

With caution, her tibbar hopped forward until her always-twitching nose met the tip of his finger. And then she did something Vilarra never expected. She hopped onto Gib’s hand and rolled over for him to rub her belly. And he did, eliciting frantic purrs from the little fuzz ball. Elynyn had never done that for anyone but her.

About GIB AND THE TIBBAR:
A Novella in the Galactic Defenders Series

A dedicated Defender to the core, Gib is willing to go to any planet the Galactic Alliance sends him. That is, until he’s sent with his squad to Hemera for their Alorama ceremony, far from any threat of Erebus invasion and with no chance for promotion.

Vilarra has lived on Hemera all her life, working hard in the kitchens of the royal palace until she achieved lead hand. But learning of the universe beyond her world reveals her insignificance and shreds her sense of accomplishment and purpose.

With the help of a furry, little tibbar, Gib is determined to win the affection of Vilarra, prove to her how significant she is to him and the people who depend on her. But will his personal mission be cut short before he has the chance to win her heart?

Set-up: In the last snippet from this story, Gib came out of a wormhole after Vilarra called him to help his intoxicated friend. Now, Vilarra is handing him the bucket of cold water and cloth that he asked for. Enjoy… (creative punctuation used to make it fit)

“Thank you.” Gib took the items from her then turned to his friend. Supporting the bucket with both hands, he dumped all the water over the Defender’s head then tossed the cloth at him. “Clean yourself up; you’re a disgrace to all Defenders.”

“C’mon, Gib.” Zair wiped some water from his face. “I was drinkin’ wif the king. Was i-vi-tid.”

“And you failed to show up for your shift, leaving me all by myself. No one else could fill in because they were all intoxicated, too.”

Welcome to another Weekend Writing Warriors post!

Thank you to everyone who commented last week on my snippet from ALWAYS HER WINGMAN! I’m switching this week to GIB AND THE TIBBAR. It was originally published as part of the Pets in Space 2 anthology, but is now available on its own.

Set-up: In the last snippet I shared from this story, Gib’s friend was hungover, and asked Vilarra to contact Gib for him. Here’s where Gib arrives in an interesting way. Enjoy…

Vilarra gasped at an anomalous sight. A bright green circle the size of a basket appeared in the air near the sick Defender then began to expand. When it grew to the size of one of the tables in the banquet hall, a figure surged through. Her heart thudded as though it would burst right out of her chest. When she realized the person who’d come through was Gib, she released a heavy sigh. “Thank the cosmos! I wasn’t sure what that was.”

He shrugged. “Just a small wormhole. I didn’t want Zair to take up any more of your precious time, and this was the fastest way to get here.”

Moon knows how to provoke Garish. #WeWriWa snippet from ALWAYS HER WINGMAN #scifi #romance #scifirom

Welcome to my Weekend Writing Warriors post!

Hello! Thank you to everyone who stopped by to read my post last weekend! I have another unedited snippet from ALWAYS HER WINGMAN, the first book in the series MARS SQUADRON 17 for you to read.

Set-up: This snippet continues a few sentences after last weekend’s, where the crew are still discussing the meal replacement bars. But being stuck in a spaceship for months on end can cause a lot of conflict. Some of it intentional….

“Don’t worry.” Hannah gazed past Garish to the port window. “In a week we’ll land on the lunar station, and a month after that we’ll be on Earth and able to eat whatever flavor we want.”

Moon leaned closer, twisting around so his back was to the other squadron members. “You know, Korean flavors are very tantalizing. You can have a taste of me anytime you want.”

A half-eaten bar flew above the table and smacked Moon in the side of the head.

“Back off,” Garish said through gritted teeth.

Moon simply glared at him with a sly smile and draped an arm over Hannah’s shoulders. “You jealous farm boy?”

ALWAYS HER WINGMAN blurb…

Staff Sergeant Hannah Coriveau dedicated the last five years to the Space Military Command. Heading back to Earth, she’s ready to begin civilian life and reunite with her parents and the boyfriend she left behind. The person she’ll miss most is Garish—her wingman, best friend, and the one who made her regret not being single.

Senior Airman Colin Garish wants his squadron leader. Bad. After spending so much time by her side—both in the Martian skies and on the red planet—being her friend isn’t enough. When Hannah learns of her boyfriend’s infidelity, Colin is there to comfort her.

Before Colin has the chance to confess his feelings, Hannah receives worse news from home. Her father is dying. Seeing her devastation, Colin remains the friend she desperately needs. But in her grief, she pushes him away. Will Hannah let him back in her life when they land on Earth? Or will Colin never get the chance to win her heart?
