Shameless Summer Giveaway Hop!

Hello, and welcome to my post for the Shameless Summer Giveaway Hop! For those who don’t know, I write mainly science fiction romance, though I do have a contemporary romance story out, and a paranormal erotica story releasing soon.

First of all, I must say a huge thank you to Jen at Red Hot Books, Brie at Romance Around the Corner & Michelle at Michelle’s Book Blog for organizing and hosting this hop. And thanks to you for coming to visit me! :)

For the hop, I thought I’d share a scene from The Zurian Child where the characters are at the beach. They are Hemera, an alien race that can breathe underwater, but also live on land. They all live on Earth now, and Quinn and Lindsay have only recently learned of their extraterrestrial ancestry. Lindsay is married to Quinn and they have a child together, but her and Bryce are soul mates.

Bryce trudged down to the water following Quinn and his family, with plans for a nap in the afternoon. He dove under the water followed by Quinn to show to Lindsay they could breathe under the water, and assure her Katrina would not drown.

Quinn walked onto the shore and plucked Katrina from her arms. “It’s your turn, Linds. Burly will help you.”

Sauntering toward the water, she kept spinning back toward Quinn. Bryce wanted to escort her farther in, but in his current condition he needed to remain at least waistdeep in the water.

Last year, she had a cast on her leg and could not swim, so he’d never seen her in a bikini before.

The rising sun seemed to form a halo around her body, making her even more appealing. She’d definitely made full use of Quinn’s gym since Katrina’s birth.

On her first plunge, she swallowed water and coughed it back up. Bryce rushed to her. “You’re okay,” he said, reluctant to touch her. He had to maintain her trust. “Just take deep breaths and try again.”

On the shore, Quinn smiled. “It is possible, Linds. I know you can do it.”

“I don’t know,” she said.

He reached out for her. When close enough, he brushed his fingers across the gills on her neck. “I can feel them there.” He ran his fingers across them once more.

Desire finally beat down all control and a vision passed between them.

He held her close under the moonlight. In the knee deep water, they kissed, his lips warm against hers. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her body harder against his erection.

She pulled away.

“Shit,” he muttered. He’d worked so hard to gain her trust. And in one moment, he’d ruined everything.

She turned to him and he saw the guilt in her eyes.

She stepped away and immersed herself under the water once more. He followed close to assure himself she adjusted without any problems as she swam away from him, turned and swam back past him. Shit, she’s so mad.

The Zurian Child:

Lindsay Beckett longed to be reunited with her first love, Quinn Montgomery, until she learns the secret that sent him fleeing from her in the first place. He’s an alien, a Hemera, and she’s half-Hemera herself. As if that wasn’t enough to ruin her dreams of a perfect life, when their child is born, they discover she fulfills a prophesy told twenty light years away and many years ago. Lindsay wants to ignore it, until her husband is murdered and suddenly believing becomes a matter of survival.

Lindsay and her young daughter are forced to rely on another Hemera, her husband’s partner and best friend, Bryce Beuermann as more and more of the Hemera are slaughtered. Bryce will do anything to help his best friend’s widow—including suppressing his own deep feelings for her. But he must prove they can trust him, even pretending he doesn’t want her with all his heart.
