A good-looking squadron. #WeWriWa snippet from ALWAYS HER WINGMAN #scifi #romance #scifirom

Welcome to my Weekend Writing Warriors post!

Hello! Thank you to everyone who stopped by to read my post last weekend! I have another unedited snippet from ALWAYS HER WINGMAN, the first book in the series MARS SQUADRON 17 for you to read.

Set-up: This snippet continues from last weekend’s, where the crew are sitting around discussing their favorite flavors of meal replacement bars. Enter the hero of the story…

“Yeah, except we ate all of those on our way to Mars.” Senior Airman Colin Garish entered the mess hall, taking the seat across from Hannah and beside Zhang.

He glared at Moon. Probably for sitting beside her rather than for eating the last of the good meal bars, because they’d all devoured them together. Hannah had even stashed a few chocolate-flavored bars in her locker to keep from the others. Yet, they hadn’t lasted the first month of their journey.

Garish’s attraction to her was no secret among the squadron, but it wasn’t returned. Sure, he was good-looking. All of her squadron was when they actually took the time to clean themselves. But Hannah had Peter, the teen who’d stolen her heart back on Earth and she’d vowed to remain faithful to while she served her five years with the Space Military Command.

ALWAYS HER WINGMAN blurb…

Staff Sergeant Hannah Coriveau dedicated the last five years to the Space Military Command. Heading back to Earth, she’s ready to begin civilian life and reunite with her parents and the boyfriend she left behind. The person she’ll miss most is Garish—her wingman, best friend, and the one who made her regret not being single.

Senior Airman Colin Garish wants his squadron leader. Bad. After spending so much time by her side—both in the Martian skies and on the red planet—being her friend isn’t enough. When Hannah learns of her boyfriend’s infidelity, Colin is there to comfort her.

Before Colin has the chance to confess his feelings, Hannah receives worse news from home. Her father is dying. Seeing her devastation, Colin remains the friend she desperately needs. But in her grief, she pushes him away. Will Hannah let him back in her life when they land on Earth? Or will Colin never get the chance to win her heart?

What’s your favorite flavor? #WeWriWa snippet from ALWAYS HER WINGMAN #scifi #romance #scifirom

Welcome to my Weekend Writing Warriors post!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! I haven’t participated in a few weeks due to the holidays, but I’m back with an unedited snippet from ALWAYS HER WINGMAN, the first book in the series MARS SQUADRON 17. Since I last posted from this story, I’ve revised it in many places, changed my character inspiration, and started the story in a new spot. I also have a cover now, but I’m not ready to show it.

Set-up: This is from the NEW beginning of the book when Mars Squadron 17 is on the way back to Earth after serving their time on Mars.

Staff Sergeant Hannah Coriveau took a bite of her meal bar—bacon and egg-flavored this time—not her favorite, but a definite improvement over the one the manufacturers called “spaghetti and meatballs”.

“Ever try a kimchi-flavored one?” Senior Airman Moon Jin Woo waved his bar around beside her. “Or Korean Fried Chicken? My grandmother used to tell us they taste close to the real thing. And they’re definitely better than the North American flavor pallet I’ve been forced to consume for the past six years.”

“I agree.” After shoving the last piece of his bar in his mouth, Senior Airman Alex Zhang stood while rolling the empty wrapper into a ball. He tossed it toward the trash compactor and got it in with a rim shot. “The Dim Sum is my favorite, though I don’t mind the pizza or chocolate ones.”

The sexy mall Santa. #WeWriWa from HEY, SANTA #alien #romance #scifirom

Welcome to another Weekend Writing Warriors post!

Thank you to everyone who commented last week on my snippet from GIB AND THE TIBBAR! This weekend, I’m switching to another story, a Christmas alien romance called HEY, SANTA.

Set-up: Claire has never liked the holidays since she lost her parents and brother right before Christmas a few years prior. But, her friend is trying to get her to enjoy them again and wants her to ask out the local mall Santa whom they both think is good-looking. The snippet below happens right after Claire finally summons the courage, and is in the hero’s POV. (edited to fit) Enjoy…

Andreas blinked, trying to wrap his head around what the sexy woman in front of him had just asked. He’d stared at her miles of long legs showed off by black tights, and her full, glossy lips, but he never expected her to leave her friend and come over, let alone ask him on a date. The only women who ever approached him were already married and concerned about the results of their child’s picture with Santa Claus, or the single moms who thought he’d make a great baby daddy.

“You want to go out on a date? With me?” he asked.

She nodded, her eyes glassy, as if about to cry if he said no. He would hate himself if that happened. But, her expression changed in an instant, her stare hard. “Forget I said anything,” she said stepping back. “You’re looking a little green anyway.”

All they’re asking for…

Can these two lonely souls find magic together or will their secrets steal their chance of a happy Christmas?

Set-up: Last week, Vilarra and Gib shared their first kiss. Many of you wondered whether there would be another. Well, the next morning there is a Defender outside the kitchen, but it’s Gib’s partner instead. (edited to fit) Enjoy…

“Please help,” he groaned.

She walked closer but remained out of his reach. “What do you need?”

“A new head, to start.” He massaged his temples then squinted up at her. “Hey, I know you.”

“Yes, how can I help you?” She didn’t have time to play games with the Defender.

“Gib, call Gib, I need him to get me back to the barracks.” The Defender turned his head to the side and vomited.
