Searching for his loved ones after the attack. #MWTease from BRYCE #99cents #scifi #romance

Get teased, titillated, and tantalized with this week's Mid Week Tease

Happy Wednesday! Thank you for visiting me for another Mid Week Tease! Sorry I missed you last week. It was a hectic week, and I came down with a yucky cold. I’m still battling it, but it’s definitely not as bad as it was. Today I’m sharing another excerpt from BRYCE, the first book in my Galactic Defenders scifi adventure romance series.

**Today is the LAST DAY to get BRYCE on sale for 99¢**

Setup: Last time Bryce had returned from Niesgoo and had just learned there were survivors on Hemera after the Erebus attack. But, he still doesn’t know if Lalia and Katrina survived…

Bryce hurried off the platform ahead of his squad and weaved a path through Defenders and traumatized Hemera. The survivors walked around in a state of shock and mourning loved ones common to those who’d witnessed so much destruction. But, he was in no frame of mind to help them. Not until he found Lalia and Katrina alive. He searched faces, none of them familiar, the Defenders already on the planet all new, squads he had never worked with before. Likely their first mission.

In the middle of them all, he spotted Pollux interviewing a survivor and receiving reports from Defenders. He had to know if they’d located the princess.

The Warwa noticed Bryce and nodded. “Excuse me a moment,” he said to the Hemera in front of him.

Bryce tensed as he rushed to the other man, hoping he held good news. “Please tell me you’ve found them.”

“No.” Pollux grabbed his arm. “But someone reported seeing them in the forest, running from an Erebus.”

“Fornax!” The news slammed his heart harder.

“There’s more.” Pollux moved his fingers across the tablet with great speed. “They had a little girl with them. And the princess was limping.”

Bryce looked to the sky and screamed. He should have listened to Lalia when she said she didn’t want to go back to Hemera; his fault for not admitting his relationship to the Alliance. He could have refused the assignment, insisted on staying with Lalia and Katrina on the planet. Then he wouldn’t be wondering if they were still alive, unharmed.

“Please tell me there are Defenders out looking for them.” If not, he’d roll the head of the major in charge of this mission.

“Yes, Zulu is out there.” He showed Bryce coordinates on his screen. “That’s where they are now.”

“Thanks.” Bryce pulled out his WHM and plugged in the position.

The hole had barely opened when he leaped through. On the other side, he searched for the first Defender he saw, a Mingot, and grabbed him by the front of his uniform. “Where are they?” He would not rest until he found them.

Are there any survivors? #MWTease from BRYCE #99cents #scifi #romance #GalacticDefenders

Get teased, titillated, and tantalized with this week's Mid Week Tease

Happy Wednesday! Thank you for visiting me for another Mid Week Tease! I’m sharing another excerpt from BRYCE, the first book in my Galactic Defenders scifi adventure romance series. **BRYCE is on sale for 99¢ until April 19, 2017**

Setup: Last week Bryce was on Niesgoo killing Erebus there, but another colony of Erebus were on Hemera. Lalia and Katrina had escaped from the castle and were on the run. In today’s excerpt, Bryce learned about the attack on Hemera, but doesn’t believe anyone survived…

Bryce shuffled off the ship and onto the carrier, sorrow threatening to tear him into a million pieces. Early reports cited Hemera as completely destroyed, nothing left but decomposing bodies covered in black tar. No survivors.

When the Defenders had returned, they’d shot dead any Erebus they’d found still on the planet, though many had likely already sailed on to another. Defenders searched the palace, the commoner village, and the old barracks. Every Hemera had perished. And all the bodies disintegrated into puddles of black goo.

Yet, he refused to believe Lalia and Katrina dead. Fate could not be so cruel as to reunite him with the love of his life and the daughter he’d never known, then to steal them away again.

Stepping onto the lift, Bryce re-examined the reports Pollux had forwarded to him. Over one hundred bodies found in the palace, the number half of what should have been there. And no one had been found in Lalia or Katrina’s rooms, but a body puddle outside them, in the hallway. One assumed to be male from the clothing left behind.

With those facts, he held onto the hope they’d escaped, found a place to hide with others, and hadn’t raced to the old barracks.

Bryce swallowed the lump in his throat. He’d made love to Lalia there, promised to cherish her forever. Now the place sat tarnished with the blood of innocent Hemera. Dozens of Hemera had fled to the place they’d believed safe, only to be struck down. Did Lalia and Katrina lay among them?

Cosmos, the Alliance needed to make WHM technology more widely available. So many more could have escaped, jumped to safety at the first sign of the Erebus.

A tear slipped down his cheek. He slammed his fist against the wall. The pain in his hand didn’t compare to the shredding of his heart.

The lift door opened. Instead of the empty hall he’d hoped for, Bryce stared at a page with a wide grin stretching his face.

“Major, I have good news.”

“A planet has just been destroyed.” The thought of growling at the young Vella crossed his mind. Instead, he sidestepped him and headed to the control room to meet the leader of the Galactic Alliance. “There is no good news today.”

“But they’ve found some.” The page rushed in front of him. “Alive! They’re coming out of the trees. Kimba told me to tell you right away.”

The news came like a solar flare on the ice planet, Ramos. Did the survivors include his loved ones? “Thank you.” He raced to the control room with renewed hope.

#MidWeekTease: Running from the Erebus in BRYCE #scifirom #sfr #GalacticDefenders #MWTease

Get teased, titillated, and tantalized with this week's Mid Week Tease

Happy Wednesday! Thank you for visiting me for Mid Week Tease! My second Galactic Defenders story, JAGER, released on Monday. Today, I’m sharing another excerpt from BRYCE, the first book in the series. **BRYCE is on sale for 99¢ until April 19, 2017**

Setup: Last week Bryce was on Niesgoo, saving Jager so he could be the hero in the next book. But while he was away killing Erebus there, this is what happened on Hemera, where Lalia and Katrina went.

Katrina tapped Lalia’s arm. “Mom?”

The panic in her daughter’s voice echoed her own as the tentacles of an Erebus reached out from a room up the hall. Lalia shoved her daughter into the emergency exit, the door opening from the force. “Get to the bottom of the stairs and wait for me.” The other floors had their own escape routes, though none of them connected to prevent access to intruders from lower levels.

She cringed at having to say anything at all, not one Erebus noticed, none of them lumbering out after her.

Not daring to say anything more, Lalia gestured for Fortinimus to follow her. She might hate him, but couldn’t bear to witness anyone else die at the tentacles of an Erebus. So many already had, their screams of torture and death having hauntingly ended.

The man meant to guard her shook his head. “You are going the wrong way, Princess. Only I can save you from the Erebus.”

Was he intoxicated, high on nehbred? She didn’t care to fight with him. Or have time. An Erebus thundered from the room it had terrorized, and trundled toward her and Fortinimus. Her bodyguard could save himself. She had her daughter to look out for.

Shoulder to the emergency exit, Lalia burst into the stairwell. With no way to lock it from this side, she ran, ignoring the screams of those she couldn’t save.

Katrina waited for her at the bottom of the stairs, the door to the outside already open. They tumbled out into the fresh air together, and Lalia sprinted ahead, leading her daughter toward the woods. The Erebus resembled vegetation, but their bulk kept them from following anyone between the trees. It was the way she’d escaped so many years before. With any luck, she’d find more Hemera scattered along the narrow trails.

A stitch pierced the muscles of her stomach, but she couldn’t stop, couldn’t even slow down. Not until she got Katrina safely away from the palace, somewhere they could wait for the Defenders to stop the annihilation of her people. No spaceship waited for her this time.

She weaved among the tree trunks, avoided prickly bushes, and leaped over logs. The clear path she used to travel had grown over, but nothing could make her forget where to go, not even eighteen years on another planet.

#MidWeekTease: Defender vs. the Erebus in BRYCE #scifirom #sfr #GalacticDefenders #MWTease

Get teased, titillated, and tantalized with this week's Mid Week Tease

Happy Wednesday! Thank you for visiting me for Mid Week Tease! In less than a week, the second Galactic Defenders story releases. It’s Jager’s story. Today, I’m sharing an excerpt from BRYCE, the first book in the series, when you first meet Jager.
**BRYCE is on sale for 99¢ until April 19, 2017**

Setup: Bryce has left Lalia and Katrina behind on the Galactic Alliance carrier, and is with his squad on Hoggins to stop the Erebus from eliminating the native population.

Bryce led his squad to the right, plazer at the ready. Erebus tentacles littered the ground. Creatures caught in the explosion. The stench of Erebus waste and the charring of the building burnt his nostrils. Flicking on his helmet, he tried to focus through the tears in the corners of his eyes. He preferred to keep his senses unimpeded by the helmet, but the shield sensors would help him see in the thick smoke. Readings failed to locate any life needing rescue.

Static crackled in his ear from the translator.

“Twenist, is that you?” A member of Delta squad.

More static, followed by a scream. Erebus calls pierced the night.

Cosmos! “Echo squad, move to the left side. Prepare to engage enemy.” His heart raced as he rushed ahead to lead his team into battle.

The smoke thinned on the left side. An Erebus lunged at him. Weapon at the ready, he shot the creature, sending it flying back. Two more charged from the right. Rays of light from plazer fire behind him took them out before he had the chance to shoot.

Yet, the Erebus cries continued. In a line, his squad searched for members of Delta while defending each other. They found nothing but bodies, or what remained of them. Black sludge covered the uniforms and faces of the fallen Defenders, preventing identification. Skin bubbled as it disintegrated into nothing but goop.

Bryce released a heavy breath. An entire squad taken out by adolescent versions of their enemy. While help rested steps away.

Movement in the distance caught his attention. He squinted through his visor while his brain processed the image. A Defender—likely one of Delta, since all of Echo stood around him—darted away from the burning building. Toward a moving line of blackness.

Oh Gaspra! What was the fool thinking? “Echo, out in the distance.” He pointed. “There’s a Defender out there who’s about to take on a cluster of Erebus. Let’s go help, make sure he comes back alive.”

His team dashed to protect one of their own before he’d finished the order. The lone Defender dropped to one knee and fired his weapon, taking out a large number of Erebus. But more kept coming, forming a circle around him.

Bryce fired along with his company. The circle broke as a multitude of Erebus fell. But an agonizing scream from among the creatures postponed any victory.

Two Erebus stood on either side of the Defender, their tentacles wrapped around his arms and legs, like they wanted to pull him apart. Playing. No, tormenting him.

Bryce fired, never letting up on the trigger. He’d seen the creatures kill before but not torture their prey. Absolutely unheard of.

The Erebus dropped the Defender before they slumped to the ground. Dead. But, he hoped the man in the blood-stained blue fatigues between them had survived. The rest of Echo downed any remaining enemies, plowing a path for him to retrieve the fallen Defender.

The lapel on the shredded suit read Jager. No stars, only a private. Bryce touched the kid’s neck. A pulse, thank the universe. Blood covered the private’s face, a large gash from his chin, along his cheek, across his nose, and up the other side of his head. Surface wounds, not life threatening. They had to get him back to the barracks to check for and treat any internal injuries.
