Having their own party. #WeWriWa from GIB AND THE TIBBAR #scifi #romance

Welcome to another Weekend Writing Warriors post!

Thank you to everyone who commented last week on my snippet from GIB AND THE TIBBAR! This story is in the EMBRACE THE ROMANCE: PETS IN SPACE 2 anthology, a USA Today Bestseller. Here’s another snippet…

Set-up: I’ve skipped ahead a bit more. While the Defenders celebrated with royalty, the commoners had their own celebration. Vilarra took Gib there and is participating in the festivities. Enjoy…

With a whoop, she circled around the fire with the other dancers, marching in and bowing out, linking arms to skip around and around. A much more energetic gathering than the dinner he’d attended. And more intimate, with the commoners mingling with everyone instead of staying in their own spot to socialize with those immediately beside them and drink until they passed out as many of the Defenders had done earlier that night. None of the commoners seemed intoxicated, and he hadn’t seen any mead passed around at this party.

Vilarra slowed down, eventually stopping in front of him, her face now pale. She’d likely started early to prepare the meal he’d enjoyed at the palace. A long day she’d have to repeat again for the Alorama ceremony. Gib stood beside her and cupped her elbow. “You look like you need some sleep. Would you allow me to walk you home?”

About GIB AND THE TIBBAR:
A Novella in the Galactic Defenders Series

A dedicated Defender to the core, Gib is willing to go to any planet the Galactic Alliance sends him. That is, until he’s sent with his squad to Hemera for their Alorama ceremony, far from any threat of Erebus invasion and with no chance for promotion.

Vilarra has lived on Hemera all her life, working hard in the kitchens of the royal palace until she achieved lead hand. But learning of the universe beyond her world reveals her insignificance and shreds her sense of accomplishment and purpose.

With the help of a furry, little tibbar, Gib is determined to win the affection of Vilarra, prove to her how significant she is to him and the people who depend on her. But will his personal mission be cut short before he has the chance to win her heart?

Welcome to another Weekend Writing Warriors post!

Set-up: I’ve skipped ahead a bit. Gib helped Vilarra clean up before he offered to walk her home. Though she reluctantly agreed to both. Enjoy…

Initially, her steps were short and fast, but as he kept pace with her along the edge of the dark forest, she slowed down, even tugging on his hand to show him the bright pink bishicub flower, spotlighted by the moon’s glow. “It’s the first to bloom every year. We find them only in the evenings just before the Alorama. Older generations believed it to be bad luck if they haven’t bloomed before the ceremony happens. That usually means floods, which is easy to understand since we live on a tiny piece of land on a planet of water. Though, it seems, this year, we will escape that disaster.”

Though beautiful, the flower didn’t compare to the way Vilarra’s eyes sparkled when she spoke, how her cheeks flushed when she smiled. And the energy zinging from her body into his as she continued to hold onto his fingers captivated him more than any thought he could have caught a glimpse of in her mind.

Then she dropped his hand and laughed. “That’s probably not what you want to know.”

Set-up: I’ve skipped to the next chapter. The banquet is finished and Vilarra is cleaning up. Gib had the chance to go drinking with the king of Hemera, but decides to stick around instead…

The woman stood in front of a washing basin, arms immersed in soapy water up to her elbows. Her grey smock dripped water onto her thin foot coverings. He couldn’t call them shoes, as they looked to provide a bare minimum of protection, if any. She had pulled her hair into a loose bun—tied up with a piece of string—with stray curly strands hanging into her face. Every now and again, she blew a strand away, only for it to return to the same position. Cosmos, he could watch her forever. She didn’t have one particular feature he found attractive. Just everything about her. The whole package. And he wanted to get to know her better before he had to leave.

Author @MHowardWrites shares her Writing Process #PetsinSpace #scifi #romance

My Writing Process

by Michelle Howard

I’m one of those people who works best in chaos. It might have something to do with 18+ years in a high level corporate role. I need noise- be it music, voices, tv or just general mayhem. Crazy, I know. LOL.  Absolute quiet drives me insane especially when I’m knee deep in a book. I honestly think my muse and creative energy is fueled by what I perceived as social surroundings. Its only in the last few months that I’ve stopped taking my laptop to family functions. (Don’t judge me. LOL) I’d get an idea or see a scene clearly and need to write it down right then and right there. Oft times, I’d get 3k easily at birthday parties or cookouts while people laughed, played and talked around me.

My mom has finally stopped that much to my dismay BUT now I end up with 500 words or more on my phone when I discretely try to squeeze in a scene. For me there is nothing worse than not being able to write at any given moment. I’m a panster and when the mood strikes I’m off to the races.

While working on my story for the Pets In Space anthology, I could be found curled on the sofa with headphones and listening to a mix of heavy metal, pop and French R&B. (yes, in French and yes I understood the lyrics. LOL.)

I’m really happy with the final story titled Wired For Love which is surprising since I’m usually a horrible critic with my own work. Hopefully readers will enjoy this labor of love as well.

Narelle slipped through the opening of the door and closed it behind her before Hunter could respond. Defeat lashed at his senses and the bitter taste of loss filled his mouth. He muttered all the way back to his bedroom, kicking at his clothes on the floor and ignoring the lingering scent of their lovemaking from the tumbled sheets.

Bogan trotted over and nosed at Hunter’s leg. With a sigh, Hunter gave up for now and decided there was no need in chasing her. She’d be back in his bar again. He had to believe that and the next time, he planned to be prepared. Narelle was his and now that he’d had a taste, he wasn’t letting her go.

In the meantime, Hunter took a quick shower unable to focus with the scent of her on every inch of his skin. Afterwards, he settled at the cramp desk shoved in the corner. The click clack of Bogan’s nails followed. He booted up the old computer with its top of the line interior workings. To any who sought to rob him, the would be criminals would overlook this out of date tech, never knowing what he had housed on it.

“All in or nothing.” With that announcement, he keyed in a site he had avoided over the last few years having no need to maintain contact with the information or the people. But niggling concern played at the back of his mind and Hunter refused to let the puzzle sit unanswered. He glanced at the tan and black war mongrel. “I need to find out how you ended up here and how to get you back.”
Mysteries never sat well with him.
